2Spirits Walking Gently

2Spirits Building From Within Project

2SBW is a capacity building project funded through Women and Gender Equality Canada's LGBTQ2 Community Capacity Fund Program.


Our project focuses on building up the organizations internal capacity to engage with community, build organizational structure, and create strategic and financial plans to provide long-term stability for our work. 


Individual project goals include: 

1. Enhancing our board of directors through training and recruitment 

2. Creating advisory councils and circles to inform our future endeavours and the services we provide to our community

3. Creating a strategic plan 

4. Creating a long-term financial plan 

5. Creating a province wide network of 2Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+  led and serving organizers and community members

Spirit Name

Our Spirit Name, 2Spirits Walking Gently was given to us by Elder Charlotte Nolin. This name will guide us in our work as we grow and engage with communities across Manitoba.

Kai Labun (They/ Them)


Is a Non-Binary, Epu Pillan (2Spirit) Mixed Mapuche settler born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, in what is known as Winnipeg. They have a BA in Psychology with a double major in Rhetoric & Communications. 

For the last 6 years Kai has worked with queer and indigenous youth and young adults in the Spence Neighbourho

Kai Labun (They/ Them)


Is a Non-Binary, Epu Pillan (2Spirit) Mixed Mapuche settler born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, in what is known as Winnipeg. They have a BA in Psychology with a double major in Rhetoric & Communications. 

For the last 6 years Kai has worked with queer and indigenous youth and young adults in the Spence Neighbourhood and with Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. During this time, they have been a front-line worker, a coordinator, a facilitator, and a mentor focusing on expanding youth experiences and building skills leading to empowerment for their participants, and staff team.  

Kai is delighted to bring their capacity building skills to the 2Spirits Building from Within Project, and to contribute to the work of 2SPM, by creating safer spaces for 2Spirit, gender and sexually diverse Indigenous peoples.

Jai Siwak (She/They)


Is a genderfluid, Métis person, raised on Treaty 1 Territory. 


They've volunteered with Pride Winnipeg in many capacities for 6 years, and in 2020 finished a period as Director of Marketing, overseeing a successful brand relaunch. 


She's also spent 11 years in the travel industry – heading up marketing, as well as planni

They've volunteered with Pride Winnipeg in many capacities for 6 years, and in 2020 finished a period as Director of Marketing, overseeing a successful brand relaunch. 


She's also spent 11 years in the travel industry – heading up marketing, as well as planning events & coordinating travel arrangements for leisure and corporate travel alike.


Jai also spent 10 years in the Navy working with youth on survival skills and leadership, to implement the Sea Cadet training program, and as a human rights advisor within the program.

 Jai is passionate about creating safer spaces for 2Spirit, gender, and sexually diverse Indigenous peoples, and Is thrilled to bring their enthusiasm to the 2Spirits Building from Within Project.

Phoenix Hourie (They/Them)


Is a 2Spirit Michif non-binary person born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, with familial roots in Selkirk, Grand Marais, and the Red River area. They have a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba. 


Phoenix has experience working with a variety of communities and individuals of all ages and has a

Is a 2Spirit Michif non-binary person born and raised on Treaty 1 Territory, with familial roots in Selkirk, Grand Marais, and the Red River area. They have a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba. 


Phoenix has experience working with a variety of communities and individuals of all ages and has a background in group facilitation, case management, community development, counselling, art based programming, and harm reduction practices. For the last 4 years Phoenix has worked as a front-line worker throughout Winnipeg.  


They hope to help create safer spaces for 2Spirit, Indigi-queer, and gender and sexually diverse Indigenous peoples.  Phoenix is excited to bring their facilitation skills to the 2Spirits Building from Within Project, and to contribute to the work of 2SPM.
